Wow--great column, Rusty! Love the Checker! I remember riding in the taxi versions of those back in the day. They were definitely huge!!!

I wish I had taken a pix of the back. It's sort of ridiculous how much room is back there.

The Checker was a fantastic automobile. We had a double bass player in our SF Opera orchestra that owned a station wagon version of this car to carry his huge 1920’s coffin like instrument case. I loaded and unloaded that case for years. Big and spacious with a lot of carrying room
