If you’re reading this, I’m in Las Vegas. Unless you are reading it next week or sometime after that, because then I’m back in Los Angeles. Either way, thanks for reading.

P.S. If any of you are music teachers in Los Angeles, or know any, THIS is a terrific grant program that you don’t want to sleep on!
As seen on the Internets
:: This is how you tell what day a loaf of bread was baked
:: This: “Closer Captions”
:: This is not a Key & Peele skit
:: This is not your childhood Cookie Monster
:: This guy knows how to deliver a good speech
:: This checks 😂

Real Things That Actually Exist: Slay!
World Goth Day is Wednesday: As someone who can’t keep a plant alive to save their life, these customizable gravestone plant markers really speak to me.
Another Real Thing That Actually Exists: Yes way!
Playing dress-up: This is such a neat idea. Artist Diane Davis combined the fun of paper dolls with earrings using magnetic outfits. Every time my friend Lynn wears her pair, she receives countless compliments and not only from me! Given my love for all things vintage western, the Dude Ranch set is my personal favorite. There are also pendants.
Featured Events
[Los Angeles :: 7/5-7/30] I first encountered Dave Yoas's incredible tin work at the county fair and instantly fell in love with it. After I posted about it, he discovered my post and reached out to me. We quickly became fast friends, and he invited me to visit his incredible studio. Now, he’s having a solo exhibition at La Luz de Jesus Gallery called “Can Opener,” featuring 17+ of his pieces. Since I’m in L.A. these days, I am going to keep our story going by telling you about the show and by attending the opening party on July 5th (come by—it starts at 7 p.m.).
BAY AREA, CA+
[Bay Area :: ongoing] Go join an Explorers Guild event. Attend a Wholesome Circle. See what the Church of Clown is up to. Or look to Richie Rhombus and his “cool happening list” for other good/cheap Bay Area happenings. Also, check out the calendars for Artists Television Access, City Arts & Events and The Marsh.
[San Francisco :: 6/4] Odd Salon SF: Bananas: “Tales of the wild and wacky, ridiculous hijinks and ludicrous tomfoolery, absurd antics and the absolutely preposterous… and actual bananas.” I mean, c’mon!
ELSEWHERE
[Los Angeles :: Now-Spring 2025] The Petersen Automotive Museum has a new exhibition on lowriders that looks incredible!
[Huntington Beach :: 6/1] SoCal Wienerfest [Thanks, Heather!]
[Los Angeles :: 6/2] Los Angeles Plays Itself is a 2003 documentary about how Los Angeles has been depicted in films. On June 2 at 2 p.m., it’s showing on the big screen at the Academy Museum.
[Worldwide :: 6/8] Game of Shrooms
[Brooklyn :: 6/8] Shadow Traffic’s Cycult: A nocturnal scavenger hunt on bikes through the New York underworld. From the event’s description: “This will be a competitive scavenger hunt where your cult will venture to a series of secret Brooklyn locations where you will perform rites & ritualistic challenges. You’ll earn points during these for your acts of devotion and receive bonus points by finding & doing things from the ordained scavenger list.”
[L.A. :: 6/29] Ooo, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? is playing at Hollywood Forever Cemetery! Check out the rest of their film calendar too.
THIS: Professor B. Miller from the Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra recently visited Willis Wonderland with his lovely family and brought an absolutely delightful gift—a stack of postcards he designed! Although it was his first visit, he used photos he found online for his inspiration and somehow perfectly captured the spirit of this only-in-L.A. abode.
Anyhoo, I want to share this amazing gift with YOU! If you send me a postcard postmarked before June 15, I'll scribble a message on one of the four designs and send in return (while supplies last, naturally). Please make sure your name and address are legible. I already have postcard stamps ready to go, I’m just waiting for you to do your part!
Bonus points if you include a recommendation for a favorite but lesser-known L.A. attraction that I should check out while I'm in town.
[Email me for the address!]
Happy mail-art-ing!
Thanks so much for giving my magnetic jewelry a shout-out!!
