Hey friends,
Before another minute, hour, day, week goes by I want to stop and say hello.
Life’s been full and I’ve been enjoying what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. This time of year that’s absolutely stunning foliage, crisp days, and less rain than one would expect for these parts. It’s “soup and vest season,” my friend Veek jokes, which is funny ‘cause it’s true. There have also been orcas in the sound (which I haven’t seen YET) and loads of mushrooms in the wild (which I have seen and photographed).
I recently got back from a little adventure in Portland where I went to spoil SJ for her birthday. She's NINETEEN already, can you believe it? If you’re wondering, she’s doing great at college. It suits her well.
The timing of my trip couldn't have been more perfect. I finally got the chance to experience the All Souls Procession which was the same weekend. It’s this beautiful event, replete with ritual aspects, to remember those we’ve lost recently. My friend Melissa is one of the organizers and has been telling me I should go for a while—she was right! That's her in white in the photo above, leading the way.
The procession itself was a moving sight, with people in masks and costumes, walking through the night from Green Anchors (a place for creative folks you should know about), winding through Cathedral Park, all the way to the Willamette River. At the river's edge, we bid farewell to those we lost this year, including reading their names from a book and burning notes we had written to them. Sadly, among those names was our beloved kitty Missy who left us a few weeks ago.
I wasn’t able to stay for it but the evening ended with a celebration for the living at Green Anchors.
It was a lovely evening. If it sounds like your kind of thing, get on their mailing list now for next November’s event.

P.S. 37% of you report that, yes, you still dress up for Halloween but 0% of you have sent me a photo of you in that costume! What gives? What’s my costume, you ask? “Rusty Rigatoni” is waiting for you at the bottom of the page.
As seen on the Internets
Maybe it should be “soup and cape season” instead!
